Step 1: Cleansing

For the skin to cure itself, you need to remove the dirt, excess oils, and any residual makeup etc.  Only a clean skin, thus, will be receptive to the active natural ingredients you will be using later.

-Select the right kind of cleanser according to your skin. For an all natural cleanser that is easy on all skin types, just add a few drops of lemon in a small bowl of rosewater, and use it with full confidence.

-Splash some warm water on your face and tap dry it with a soft towel

-Use some soft cotton to rub your cleanser, starting from the neck and upwards in gentle circular motion, for a minute or two.

-Once you feel the skin is soft and breathing, wait for a minute to let it relax and splash some more warm water and tap dry again.

Step 2: Exfoliating

A quick exfoliation massage should also bring out the youthful and healthy from under the dead cells and give you an instant glow to your face. A fine powder of walnut shells mixed with some glycerin is an excellent natural exfoliator.

-Starting with small quantities of your exfoliator, gently rub it upwards, starting from the neck.

-It is important to be absolutely gentle and soft with your skin at this step and do it for not more than 1-2 minutes only. Over scrubbing the skin may result into some irritation.

-Wash your face now with regular water.

Step 3: Steaming

A quick 5 minutes of steam helps your skin to relax and opens up the pores to release any toxins with sweat.

-Carefully fill a large bowl halfway with steaming hot water. Make sure the bowl is only half full and is large enough to cover your face. Also keep a couple of dry towels handy in case you need to lift the bowl, or if you spill some hot water anywhere.

-Now cover your head from the back with one of the towels, and lean carefully over the bowl so that the steam does not escape.

-Stay in this position for about 10-15 minutes with small 5-10 second breaks.

-Adding a little turmeric while boiling the water can add healing qualities to this step too.

Step 4: Face Masks

An even layer of some soothing face pack now will help against the harmful effects of chemicals and pollution. You can easily make a face mask according to your skin type, and skin problem.

A few simple combinations can be equal parts of Multani Mitti and honey for oily skin or 1 part mashed banana with two parts honey for dry skin or equal parts of yogurt and honey for combination skin types.

-Now spread one of these combinations evenly on your neck and face, especially on the forehead and around the dark skin around the eyes. Make sure that it does not come in contact with your eyes and on the sensitive skin of the lips.

-Relax with some music or soak in a bath for 30-45 minutes, or till the mask feels a little dry, and then just wash away with cold water.

Step 5: Toning

You shall now see the wonderful effects of the facial. The skins after absorbing all the natural excellence of the honey, or the yogurt, or the banana etc. should show a faint radiance that will keep increasing for the next few days. A good natural toner now will help your skin with hydration. One part apple cider vinegar combined with two parts of water is the simplest and the most effective toner. It balances the pH levels of your skin and tightens your pores.

-Apply the diluted vinegar with a cotton pad gently to your face. Once again be extra careful to avoid any contact with your eyes.

-Let the toner air dry for a few minutes, and wash off with cold water.

Step 6: Moisturizing

Finally, hydrate your fresh and newly healed skin for a lasting radiant glow. A moisturizer also immunizes your skin against minor damages and diseases. If you have an oily skin, one part of jojoba oil and two parts of aloe vera paste is an undisputable choice for a moisturizer, for other skin types almond oil, olive oil, or a little coconut oil are easy choices.

-Just apply your moisturizer onto your face in gentle circular motions and massage very softly for a minute or two and let your skin nourish itself.

So here it is! One day every fortnight and some simple ingredients, is all you need, for a happy, healthy and radiant skin.
